Scotty Shelton

Scotty Shelton brings more than three decades of experience in emergency response, rescue, and training to Roco Rescue. Based in Baker, Louisiana, Scotty served 30 years with the Baton Rouge Fire Department, retiring as Chief of Training for the 600-person department. In that role, he supervised a training staff, developed rookie schools, conducted needs analyses, and led recruiting and candidate selection efforts.
He is a graduate of all levels of Roco Rescue training, completing his first courses in 1986. Scotty also served as Program Coordinator for Louisiana USAR Task Force Two, deploying statewide for natural disasters including Hurricanes Katrina and Gustav, and leading a response to Tuscaloosa, Alabama, following devastating tornadoes.
Scotty’s broad emergency response background includes fire, rescue, medical, hazmat, and law enforcement operations. He served with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Division, the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve as a coxswain, and the Louisiana National Guard’s 159th Fighter Wing as a Search and Extraction Medic. He is a seasoned paramedic and military medic with instructor qualifications in Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC), Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC), and Prehospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS).
Scotty also spent five years as Emergency Manager and Fire Protection Specialist for the Strategic Petroleum Reserve and currently serves as Emergency Management and Incident Response Manager for Entergy Corporation. He holds a degree in Fire Science from American Military University and is a graduate of the Executive Fire Officer Program at the National Fire Academy.
In the community, Scotty serves on the Board of Directors for the Baton Rouge Fire Department Museum, Greenwell Springs Youth Riders, and Stars and Stripes Western Sports Association, where he also chairs the GSYR Rodeo Committee.
